Retro Gaming Tattoos - Steve Riner AKA @hsriner1984

Hi Steve, Thank you very much for agreeing to let us into your gaming and tattoo filled world. We love your work on twitter and suggest all our readers go and follow you as soon as possible!! @hsriner1984

TGS: To start with please go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself

SR: I am a father of 3 that has never grown up himself and still enjoys gaming as much today as I did when I was new to gaming. Mostly I stick close to home and enjoy playing video games with the family. Right now its Wii SMB and Mario Kart with the family. I am trying to turn the oldest onto my older systems and she seems to be warming up to platformers on the NES.

TGS: Sounds like great fun, your kids must love it!

Let's talk about your gaming tattoos. Where are they and can you tell us the story behind them?

SR: They show my love for retro gaming with some of my favorite games represented. It's also a tribute to my great grandfather, because we played games together when I was little.

TGS: Where did you get them done?

SR: All of my NES themed tattoos were done at Ben Around Tattoo's in Charlottesville, Virginia, by one of my long time friends Joe Greene. http://www.benaroundtattoos.com/index.html

TGS: How long did they take?

SR: Up to this point I have about 30 hours into my leg with about the same amount of time left to finish it. Link holding a piece of the triforce is to be added to my foot as well as a tetris themed background to the piece. It will be brought together by a tetris anklet to complete the piece

TGS: Did they hurt?

SR: Only part that really hurt was when my artist was going over the shin bone, other than that, didn't hurt more than gettting any other tattoo.

TGS: You must get loads of comments about your tattoos. Do you have any funny stories you would like to share?

SR: This one time I was at a local concert and a young kid and his mother approached me and asked if mega man was a Teletubby. Needless to say the look I gave them answered that question lol.

TGS: Last question - Are you planning on getting any more???

SR: I plan on being pretty much covered and as far as retro gaming tattoos wise, I dont have any other plans for more other than to finish what I have. But you never know I might incorporate something else into canvas I call skin. I will def keep you guys in the loop if there are more gaming tattoos in the works.

Thanks for the time and I really enjoy what you guys do. All I ask is you guys keep it up and dont change a thing.

Steve Riner
